Neatkept FAQ — questions about the home inventory app

Short answers to what people ask most. Something missing? Write to us.

What is Neatkept?

A home inventory app for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android, and a web app. Photograph an open box or a shelf, and AI lists what is in it for you to keep or drop. Later you ask where something is in your own words and get the home, the room, the box and a photo. See all features.

Which devices does it run on?

iPhones and iPads with iOS or iPadOS 18 or later, Macs with Apple silicon, and Android phones and tablets with Android 14 or later. On any computer, open the web app at app.neatkept.com in a browser. One account and one household work on all of them. A few things need the device: scanning labels and barcodes needs a camera, and lock codes and working offline are in the apps, not the web app. Voice is on iPhones, iPads and Android. The app for iPhone, iPad and Mac is on the App Store. The Android app is on Google Play.

Which languages does it speak?

The app is in twenty-eight languages: English, Ukrainian, German, Polish, Czech, Slovak, Croatian, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese (Portugal and Brazil), Swedish, Romanian, Hungarian, Greek, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Russian, Slovenian, Catalan, Turkish, Bulgarian, Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian. Search finds things whatever the language: ask for "дриль" and you find the cordless drill. See search.

How does the AI photo scan work?

The photo goes to our server in the EU, which asks an AI model what is in it. You get a list of proposed things and keep, edit or drop each one; nothing is added without you. See AI capture.

Does anything reach the AI without my permission?

No. Neatkept asks the first time you scan, search or speak, and you can change your answer at any time in Settings → AI. Without a yes the app still works: add things by hand, search by words, move and share. See your data.

Where is my data stored?

In the EU: the database and your photos are in Frankfurt, Germany. Neatkept shows no ads, sells no data and has no third-party analytics or tracking in the app. The privacy policy says what is kept and why.

Can I export my data or delete my account?

Yes, both from the app. Settings → Your data → Export my data gives you a zip with everything as JSON plus your photos. Delete account removes you from every household and erases the households nobody else is in.

Does it work without signal?

Yes. Your inventory is on the phone, so search, label scans, adding and moving things work in a basement or a garage. Changes wait on the phone and sync once you are online; photos are read then too. See offline.

How do QR labels work?

In Places, tap Print labels for an A4 sheet of QR labels. Stick one on a box and scan it to see what is inside, or to move the box. Each label also carries a short code you can read without the app. See labels and codes.

My boxes already have codes written in marker. Can I keep them?

Yes. Give the box the code you wrote, like W01. When you photograph the box, the phone reads the code and files the things into that box. See marker boxes.

Can I keep track of things in several homes?

Yes. Each home, garden plot, office or storeroom is a place of its own, with rooms, shelves and boxes inside. Search covers all of them at once. See places.

Can my family use it too?

Yes. The owner of a household invites people with a link. Each person joins as an editor, who adds and moves things, or a viewer, who only looks. See sharing.

Can I make a list for my insurer?

Yes. The insurance report lists every thing in a home with its photo, place and value, with totals per currency, as a PDF or a CSV. See insurance report.

How are lock codes kept safe?

Codes like the garden gate's are encrypted on our servers in the EU and kept out of search, AI and the export. Opening one on the phone asks for Face ID, a fingerprint or your screen lock, and viewers never get the code. See lock codes.

Is it free?

You can start for free. Paid plans are for households that scan a lot with AI or have more members. What you have entered is never locked.
